Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Tbilisi

Departure by regular flight to Tbilisi. Arrival at Tbilisi airport. Meeting with the  Overland Travelprivate guide at destination and transfer to the hotel. (- / - / -)

Day 2 Visit to the city of Tbilisi

Tbilisi is an important economic, social, cultural and transport hub given its strategic location between Asia and Europe. A city with enormous cultural, ethnic and religious diversity. You can find Georgian Orthodox, Armenian Gregorian and Roman Catholic churches, a synagogue and a mosque, all close to each other. This charming city was built in the 5th century along the winding valley of the Mtkvari River. We will start the excursion from the medieval Metekhi church (XIII century) and we will walk through the center discovering the streets with the characteristic wooden balconies that give the city personality and we will visit the synagogue, the Sioni cathedral (13th century), the Anchiskhati basilica (6th century), the Narikala fortress and the district of the Sulfur baths.

Day 3 Tbilisi - Mtskheta - Ananuri - Stepantsminda (Kazbegi)

After having breakfast we move to Mtskheta, the former capital of the kingdom of Georgia. An emblematic place, declared a UNESCO heritage site, which is located on the Silk Road and is a true museum in itself. We will visit the Jvari Monastery (6th century), whose church served as a model for many other churches of Georgian architecture. We will continue with the visit of the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, the most sacred in Georgia and where it is said that the robe of Christ was buried. Later, we will go to Stepantsminda, but before that we will stop to enjoy the amazing panoramic views that we find in the Jinvali reservoir and visit the Ananuri fortress complex (17th century).

Day 4 Stepantsminda - Juta - Chaukhi - Stepantsminda

After breakfast we will drive through the beautiful valley of Sno. We will travel in 4 × 4 for about 20 minutes on the unpaved road until we reach Juta, a village at 2,150 meters of altitude. The town is the starting point of one of the most beautiful routes in the area, which reaches the Tetu pass, an incredible viewpoint of Mount Chaukhi (3842 m). Some have baptized this landscape as the Dolomites of the Caucasus. Chaukhi is famous among climbers around the world for its vertical walls. Picnic along the way. On the way back we will stop at a small lake where we can relax before returning along the same route in 4 × 4 to Stepantsminda.

Day 5 Stepantsminda - Gergeti - Sabertse Pass - Stepantsminda

A private vehicle will take us in just over 20 minutes to the Gergeti monastery. Its isolated location on top of a steep mountain surrounded by the vastness of nature has made it a symbol for Georgia. We will be able to visit it before starting our route, which begins with an ascent towards Mount Kazbegi, enjoying impressive views throughout the entire route, surrounded by the majestic mountains of the Greater Caucasus. We will reach the Sabertse pass (3000 m.) From where we will perfectly see the Gergeti glacier and the Kazbegi peak, before returning, by the same path, to the starting point of our journey.

Day 6 Stepantsminda - Truso - Gudauri

Today's route begins in the Kvemo Okrokana village, to where we will travel by private vehicle. From here we will start walking towards the Truso gorge, a spectacular area well known for its mineral water springs, travertine stones and towers from the Middle Ages. It is a round trip that goes up the course of the Tergi river. The route is relatively easy, with little unevenness. We can find a border patrol, so we will carry a passport.

Day 7 Gudauri - Khada - Tbilisi

Today we are going to walk through the Khada Valley, along green meadows, among flocks of sheep and small mountain villages. Khada was the historic Mtiuleti region, with 60 watchtowers, which defended the road between the North and South Caucasus.

The days in the mountains are carried out at a suitable pace that allows you to enjoy the environment without stress. The step will always be marked by the mountain guide, always thinking of completing a good acclimatization and maintaining the strength for the day where we will reach each objective.

The guide who accompanies the group is responsible for the safety of all participants, he will try to help you at all times and you must accept the instructions he makes. You will learn many things that will be very useful in the practice of hiking and mountaineering.

If you have any significant physical or medical problem, you must indicate it in order to act correctly in case of first aid assistance being necessary. The same happens in any case of allergies or food problems.

The budgeted services are subject to the availability of places at the time of requesting the firm reservation.
After the request for the reservation by the client, the reservation request of the places in the establishments will be made. If any of the establishments are full, an alternative will be offered that can vary the price both upwards and downwards.

THE WEATHER:

The climate in Stepantminda is moderately humid, with relatively dry winters - cold and long, cool summers. The average annual temperature is 4.9ºC. January is the coldest month with an average temperature of -5ºC, while July is the warmest month with an average temperature of 14.4ºC. The maximum temperature oscillates 32ºC.

Shorts are not allowed into churches and women must wear a veil / headscarf to cover their heads in Orthodox churches.
