Lemosho Route to Kilimanjaro

One of the most amazing and memorable trekking in AfricaAFRICA | December Bridge November Bridge

All year round Summer Autumn Winter End of the year

GROUP | 1-12 people

The trekking of the Lemosho route allows us to climb Kilimanjaro following one of the quietest, most remote and lonely routes. The starting point of the ascent is Londorossi Gate , following a narrow path that for the first few days runs through a tropical forest with great wildlife and continues through the wide plateau of Shira . It offers along its entire route, some of the most spectacular landscapes in Tanzania .

A quiet and progressive climb to Kilimanjaro , lasting eight days and sleeping in camps. A memorable tour, suitable for experienced mountaineers who want to enjoy not only the summit of Kilimanjaro , but also every step of the way.

We have the capacity to organize this expedition at any time of the year and from a single participant, so you can travel whenever you want, you just have to tell us when and we will take care of everything.

Itinerary

Day 1 International flight to Tanzania

Day 2 Arrival in Moshi and transfer to the hotel

Overland travel private tour guide in Tanzania will be waiting for you at the airport to transfer you, in a private vehicle, to Moshi's accommodation . Once settled, you can finalize with the guide who will accompany you throughout the trek to Kilimanjaro , some aspects of this fabulous expedition .

Day 3 Moshi - Londorossi Gate (2,000 m.) - Mti Mkubwa (2,750 m.)

The Lemosho route is one of the routes with a longer approach. We noticed this detail already on this first day, since the trip to Londorossi Gate , the gateway to our tour of Kilimanjaro , will take us approximately two hours. Once there, and after checking into the park, we will return to our private vehicle that will take us to the beginning of the walking route, an area known as Lemosho Glade. Depending on the time we arrive and the difficulties encountered on the way, this point is usually a good place to have lunch. It will only take three to four hours of trekking to get to the first camp, so you don't have to rush it. The route through well-marked trails through the jungle does not present any difficulty, so, we will find Mti Mkubwa Camp in the afternoon, located in a small clearing in the tropical forest, where the porters will have already set up the tents.

Distance: 6 kilometers

Ascent slope: 600 meters.

Day 4 Mti Mkubwa (2,750 m) - Shira 1 Camp (3,610 m)

We continue trekking through a spectacular tropical jungle environment, until we reach a more arid and rugged moorland area. The contrast when we reach the panoramic Shira Plateau is impressive. We will continue through a valley and cross some streams until we reach the crest of the Shira crater , which will allow us to marvel at the views of this alpine plateau formed by the remains of an ancient volcanic caldera. We will continue walking through a flatter area until we reach Shira 1 Camp , a flat and fairly clear area for camping, from where we will enjoy the first views of the Kilimanjaro summit .

Distance: 8 kilometers

Ascent slope: 740 meters.

Day 5 Shira 1 (3,610 m) - Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m)

We face a panoramic day crossing the Shira plateau , with a smooth and progressive ascent that helps us improve acclimatization and increase our chances of reaching the top. During approximately four hours, which we will spend in completing this journey, we will be able to enjoy the magnificent views of Kibo Peak and Mount Meru .

Distance: 10 kilometers

Ascent slope: 300 meters.

Day 6 Shira 2 Camp (3,850 m) - Lava Tower (4,650 m) - Barranco Camp (3,950 m)

We will ascend to Lava Tower through an arid landscape, which will gradually become semi-desert and volcanic. Lava Tower is a magmatic formation also known as Shark's Tooth or Shark's Tooth , an ancient vestige of the first volcanic activity on Kilimanjaro . Getting to its base has no more difficulty than the height and the stony of the road. We will descend through the Barranco valley until we reach our camp where we will spend the night.

Distance: 12 kilometers

Ascent slope: 800 meters.

Descent slope: 700 meters.

Day 7 Barranco Camp (3,950 m) - Karanga Camp (4,000 m)

Today's day is short and the idea will be to improve our acclimatization and regain strength to face the ascent to the top of Kilimanjaro with greater guarantees . The most important difficulty of the day will be to overcome a rocky wall that separates us from the Karanga valley , but the path is much simpler than it seems and with minimal ease in mountain terrain, we will not find any problem. At this point, it is worth stopping to contemplate the imposing Heim Glacier , located before us, before continuing down to our camp in Karanga , where we will spend the night.

Distance: 4 kilometers

Ascent slope: 350 meters.

Descent slope: 300 meters.

Day 8 Karanga Camp (4,000 m) - Barafu Camp (4,600 m)

A short stage around the mountain until we reach Barafu Camp , where we must rest for a few hours in our tents, before facing the ascent to the summit of Kilimanjaro . This is a very basic camp located in a small rocky space and where it is quite cold since it is very exposed to the wind. In any case, our stay will be very short since we will only have a few hours to sleep. It is advisable to prepare all the necessary material for the ascent to the summit and pay special attention to the water, as it can freeze.

Distance: 3 kilometers

Ascent slope: 600 meters.

Day 9 Barafu Camp (4,600 m) - Summit of Kilimanjaro (5,895 m.) - Mweka Camp (3,100 m)

This day will be the most physically and mentally demanding, but these days we have been preparing our body to face this tough ascent to high altitude with the greatest guarantees.

We started walking at twelve in the morning, facing an ascent up a steep incline. We will invest about six or seven hours to reach Stella Point , (5,735 m.) Already on the edge of the crater. The first lights of the day will accompany us while we take a short break. Two hours left to reach Uhuru Peak , the highest point in Africa, so we must make a last effort to maintain the illusion and energies. The path we have left is much smoother and more panoramic than the one we have done so far, following the edge of the edge of the Kibo crater . Once we have reached the top of Kilimanjaro , it is not advisable to delay the descent, since the cold, the altitude and the fatigue can make it difficult for us to start the descent to Barafu Camp , where we can have lunch and take a well-deserved rest. Later, we will continue along a very comfortable path to our camp in Mweka Camp , in the upper part of the tropical forest and much more comfortable than the previous ones.

Distance: 15 kilometers

Ascent slope: 1222 meters.

Descent slope: 2800 meters.

Day 10 Mweka Camp - Mweka Gate - Moshi

A comfortable descent through tropical forest will lead us to Mweka Gate , where we must accredit ourselves to the authorities of the Kilimanjaro National Park . After completing this formality, a private vehicle will transfer us to the hotel in Moshi.

Distance: 10 kilometers

Downhill slope: 1400 meters.

Day 11 International flight back.

Overland Travel private vehicle will transfer us to the airport at the established time, to take the flight back home.
